Exercise 6
FINAL SUBMISSION
Friday, December 12, 2008, noon.
Overview
Choosing from the repertoire of techniques which you have learned during the semester, you are to submit a final representation of your work. This should include your CAD model file and any related renderings and animation.
Axonometric of Terragni's Danteum, CAD model and rendering by Frank Tsai, Fall 1995
Front Court of Terragni's Danteum, CAD model and rendering by Frank Tsai, Fall 1995
Interior of Terragni's Danteum (Purgatory), CAD model and rendering by Frank Tsai, Fall 1995
Primary Requirement
Your final project submission should include at least five renderings of your model, typically jpg images, and the associated dgn file. These should be placed in your submit directory. Your renderings can cover an aspect of your project in either its details or overall formal character. Your model itself can either be focused on some part of your subject or its full representation. The scope and scale of what you submit as at your discretion and according to the interest inherent in the work itself rather than meet any obligation to submit a fully detailed model.
Supplemental Option A
Your final submission may optionally include an exploration of your project's geometry through the use of Generative Components, beyond the expectations of Supplemental Exercise 1, and/or an animation of your project. This additional work should be viewed as extra icing on the cake. It would be best to aim at doing a thorough investigation of your projects with the use of 3d modeling and rendering in Microstation before developing these additional studies.
Supplemental Option B
You final submission may also incorporate 3D stereo rendering AND/OR a drawing output file in PDF or eps (encapsulated postscript) format. Remember to use an approximately 50 mm. lens when invoking the stereo rendering option in Microstation. Note that stereo animation is also possible. Give some consideration to kinds of usage that my offer vantage points not provided by orthographic or perspective projection.
How to hand in this assignment
Your rendered image submissions should be placed within your submit directory. Please place your saved "jpg" image files in the directory in addition to your final drawing "dgn" file.
In addition, you should submit in writing a one to three paragraph description that highlights key aspects of your work. The written text should be sent via electronic mail to ejmark@virginia.edu, copied to emfield@virginia.edu, and your TA. You are welcome to submit this work earlier. You are requested to verify with the assistance of a course instructor or teaching assistant that your files are properly copied into the submit directory. Verification of email and submitted work will be given within 12 hours. If you do not receive verification, or need to leave town earlier, then you should check with one of the instructors or TAs for possible difficulties.
As a final guideline, once again, the submission should highlight those aspects of your work which are relevant to your study. Inclusion of the different techniques we have examined is less important than is the relevance of the techniques used to your point of view on your project. Look upon these projects as experiments. Due to the class size , we will not hold a formal review; however, individuals are welcome to meet with either of the subject instructors or TAs to discuss their work at the end of the term. We welcome the opportunity to consult with you as you complete your work.
Good luck.
