Exercise 6

FINAL SUBMISSION
Due: Dec. 19, 1997 (by 12 noon)

Overview

Choosing from the repertoire of techniques which you have learned during the semester, you are to submit by 12 noon on December 19th a final representation of your work. This should include your CAD model and any related renderings and animation.

Supplemental Option A

Your final may optionally include an animation of your projects, although this additional work should be viewed as extra icing on the cake and not as necessary or even expected for doing outstanding work. It would be best to aim at doing a thorough investigation of your projects with the use of 3d modeling and rendering, and not worry about animation unless you find that you do have the extra time on your hands.

Supplemental Option B

You final submisstion may also incorporate 3D stereo rendering. Remember to use an approximately 50 mm. lens when invoking the stero rendering option in Microstation. Note that stereo animation is also possible. Give some consideration to kinds of usage that my offer vantage points not provided by orthographic or perspective projection. Apart from whatever novelty value that the rendering technique may have, it would be of interest to speculate as to whether it warrants serious consideration.

How to hand in this assignment

Your rendered image submissions should be placed within your submit directory. We will explain the file format in the workshops, and demonstrate how you put it within the submit directory (x:\submit).

In addition, you should submit in writing a one to three paragraph description that highlights key aspects of your work. The written text should be sent via electronic mail to ejmark@virginia.edu, copied to emfield@virginia.edu, and your TA. You are welcome to submit this work earlier. You are requested to verify with the assistance of a course instructor or teaching assistant that your files are properly copied into the submit directory. Verification of email and submitted work will be given within 12 hours. If you do not receive verification, or need to leave town earlier, then you should check with one of the instructors or TAs for possible difficulties.

The submission should highlight those aspects of your work which are relevant to the description of the design object. Inclusion of the different techniques we have examined is less important than is appropriateness and the interest inherent in the representation. Look upon these projects as experiments. Due to the class size , we will not hold a formal review; however, individuals are welcome to meet with either of the subject instructors to discuss their work at the end of the term. We also welcome the opportunity to consult with you as you work towards the completion of this work.

Hang in there everyone and best of luck!
