Workshop September 2, 2003 - First Draft

Open Microstation: Programs/microstationV8/triformaV8/ Bentley Architecture Triforma V8.1

Starting new file:

Choose File / New and choose the directory where you want it to be saved to

(before creating a new file remember to choose the particular seed file you wish to

use)

[note location seed file -  3d template - locally, look in C: \Program

 Files\Bentley81\Workspace\System\Seed\seed3d]

At school, system file defaults to \\Arch1\netapps\msv8\seed\seed3d

Open file

4 viewing windows – show different views of model space

Use fit window (small mountain icon in each view window lower left toolbar) to see all elements

of drawing

Scale:

 Settings / Design File

            Working Units –

Master Unit - feet, meters, etc.

Sub Unit – inches, centimeters, etc.

Click Advanced button – can manipulate resolution (precision of

drawing)

            Resolution 1000 in per in

            1000 pos unit per in.

357913 ft sq,  - 67 miles. (last year)

142,159,079 miles on axis (this year)

                        Grid –

                                                Master – lighter, smaller grid (0:1 - 0 feet, 1 inch)

Reference – darker, larger grid (12 – point on grid every foot)

Drawing rectangle constrained by grid:

Lower right of screen (choose lock icon and toggle grid on to create a gravity grid)

Points on grid will constrain drawing ability

Multiple window views can be chosen (up to 8) from pull down menu Window and bar at lower

left of screen

View window button bar has multiple tools to toggle on –

paintbrush (refreshes view)

plus (zooms in prescribed factor)

minus (zooms out prescribed factor)

window shape (defines view window – for zooming in)

rotate view tool (allows rotation of view) (choose view type and click once in view

window)

arrow tool (allows for panning, dynamic display on or off)

semi-circular arrows (shows views after or before present view)

perspective projection tool (manipulates perspective in very uncontrolled way)

Settings / Camera / Off will turn off perspective

Saving file

            Microstation is constantly saving file

If you would like to save iterations of model, make sure to use File / Save As

Drawing graphic primitives (all tools in main tool palette)

Polygon shapes (prescribed)

Lines (polygons, single line, surfaces, smartline, etc.)

Circles (can be drawn by selecting method – center, edge, etc.)

Arcs (can be drawn using similar methods as circle)

(note: right mouse button will toggle off accudraw selection of last drawn object)

Deleting objects

(selection using delete tool or arrow tool and then by using delete button on keyboard or

in tool palette)

Choosing Colors

Pull down menu next to level menu at upper left of screen allows easy selection of colors

(stay away from dark blue and red)

Accu-Snap (snaps to existing geometry) (can be done midstream/ while using tool)

Keypoint (endpoint or midpoint of line segment)

            Midpoint, etc.

                        Ways of controlling snaps

Temporary – selection of snap shows clear highlight

Default – selection of snap is shown as hatched
