arch 545/444: digital moviemaking and animation
assignment four: themes and strategies

Prepare a brief visual treatment for your project and present it at an individual advising session along with early rushes of the work described.

You have now worked with a number of techniques and explored a number of themes in the early animation exercises. The current task is to identify a particular method of exploration. The approach of each project should be distinct, according your particular interest in techniques and subject area for your movie project. The identification of a direction now isn't necessary one you need to adhere rigidly too and does not preclude discovering newer approaches as you proceed. This should raise only some sense of where you may be going and how to begin.

Sign-up for an individual consultation with the TA for your section and with either Earl Mark and/or Eric Field by the week of April 2nd at the latest and be prepared to discuss and demonstrate your approach tothe final project for the term, such as might be related to the following considerations:

Draw a visual sketch of two themes in your movie, such as in the following example:
(1) The modulation of light by the specific shapes of a building.
(2) The cadence of sound suggested by passage through and assembling the forms of the building.

Give a sampling of two production strategies which are can be used to develop material related to your themes, such as:
(1) Simulate motion of the sun and setup views to capture modulated lighting of the building.
(2) Record sync sound in spatial contexts or effect audio modules which relate to your project.

Provide two samples of your editing strategy that will help edit and create the look and feel of your project, such as:
(1) A step by step constuction of components that give insight into the geometrical logic of a building.
(2) A time oriented depiction sunlight that may refer to key experiential qualities.
