With the Syrian refugee crisis as a large issue in the Middle East, it is no surprise that Syria has the largest amount of deaths attributed to political crises. These deaths include heavy weapons usage. A lot of this data was pulled from secondary news sources, such as CNN or BBC.
Firearms and suicide bombings are just a few of the violent instances Iraq faces regarding political deaths. These acts occur in common places like casinos and malls. ISIS also attacks these commonplaces and it has become harder to seek safety and refuge.
In Nigeria, much of the political conflict attributes to tribe violence. This is more of an internal violence specific to the country. Since most of these instances are tribal violence, primitive weapons were also used.
As of 2016, there have been human rights activists protesting the climate surrounding workers right and treatment of others. Some people are not too happy with that and some leaders have been killed as a result.
Venezuela has a lot of criminal activity. Due to this, many of the deaths reported from Venezuela were due to gang on gang violence of prison riots. It is interesting to see how the different kinds of political violence differ from the separate parts of the world.
This point was chosen for a stark contrast to the other countries. There was only one intance in Guyana, but it was a protest in a prison and many people were killed. However, it is important to note that they were protesting their situation of overcrowding, it was not intended to be violent.
There is a stigma against Islam around all parts of the world. Although Canada only has one instance of political conflict through the dataset, this is highlighted to show that conflict is not only concentrated in the Middle East or Africa.
