Competition in The English Premier League

A Story of Decreasing Table Mobility

This is my attempt to tell the story of the diminishing mobility in the premier league.
The Bump Chart Below depicts the finishing position of each team in the Premier League over the course of 23 seasons.
The red circles depict the teams that are known as the "Big 6" - the teams that dominate the top of the table. The
size of the circle depicts the percent of total season spending (across all teams) that is attributable to the given team.

Is There Still Any Competition?

Certainly! The EPL Continues to be touted as the most interesting and competitive league in the world. It is often the case that final
league p[lacement comes down to the last week of the season. The chart below depicts how many teams change places in the league table
from week to week during a season. Use the drop down menu on the right to selece different seasons and see how movement has changed over time.

The Top of The Table Increasingly Dominates on Multiple Metrics

It has been suggested that the top of the table is increasingly seperating from the rest of the table.Lets take a look at a few metrics!!
The visuals below demonstrate how the top of the table has been increasingly divided from the rest of the table on multiple metrics, including
spending, scoring/conceding, and league points. Hover over the heatmaps to examine the values associated with each cell. Notice how the value
divide between the top of the table and the rest of the table appears to get sharper around the 6th position as time approaches the current day.
