State of the Game
The UVA Bay Game project began in 2008 as an innovative idea by an interdisciplinary group of instructors and researchers at the University of Virginia. Continuous and robust development lasted several years, with regular updates, events, traveling conference presentations, new innovations, and new assesments.
The game is now in maintenance mode. It's still here, but with more limited development. A majority of the original team has either retired or moved elsewhere. Those few of us who are still here remain dedicated to the game and to the original project, collaborative spirit, insights, and impacts that this game represents. It's too powerful of an idea.
We continue to maintain the server, the platform, and the base code, and intend to have it continue running and serving education and the environment for years to come. Bug fixes and deprecation changes continue to be implemented, but we have not updated the game's timeline or climate inputs in several years. The game plays from year 2005-2025. Maybe at some point I will update that again.
The UVA Bay Game continues to be used by middle, high, and university schools and groups across the mid-atlantic region and throughout the United States. It also continues to generate interest from practitioners and NGOs interested in these themes.
